TriComB2B

Strategic marketing for
technical products and services

Live from Scottsdale - It's the Digital Marketing Mixer (Day 1)

To forewarn you, this will sound like a blatant oversell for MarketingProfs and their Digital Marketing Mixer.  But I truly learned more in the first 2 hours here about social media than I could have efficiently on my own.  Listening to people like Chris Penn, Chris Brogan and Scott Monty (now you have to Google them) is inspiring to social media newbies like me.  I think that the information I learned today has validated not only that TriComB2B is moving in the right direction, but also that social media is a looming force for the industrial and manufacturing sectors.  It is only a matter of time.....

A few observations (or things that stick in my mind from today):

  • The 300 attendees have come from around the world.  All demographics are represented, but the majority are young and tech savvy.
  • To that point, a few of the attendees around me do not take notes.  They record the sessions using small digital camcorders.  Or they type directly into their laptop's Word or Twitter applications.  I am a solid pen and paper kind of girl - I think I am still recovering from taking the GMAT online almost 8 years ago!
  • About 50% of the attendees are using Twitter actively.
  • This event has a Facebook page.  But an interesting stat on Facebook from today - there is a "silvering" movement going on.  Meaning the age groups of 35-55 are coming on in droves as well as more in the 60-80 category.
  • To achieve Social Media Power, one needs Service, Passion, Science and Content.  More on that later.
  • Some content is still positioned as B2C - vast opportunities abound in the wild west of B2B.  :)
  • The people that I have met ask for more details about what TriComB2B really means and what it does....which I like.  I would guess that about a third of attendees are from marcom agencies, but few that have a distinct game focus in B2B.
  • Lastly - Arizona is beautiful.  See attached picture.  :)  I took it at break time this AM.

More to follow tomorrow!
